Holiday Traditions & New Year’s Activities for the Weary Teacher (All Levels)

Let’s travel next year with this vision-orienting resource “El ritual de la maleta.” I have participated in this tradition as well as brought it to my students. It’s on sale!

Christmas in Guinea Ecuatorial.

Click here to discover winter festivities and celebrations in Guinea Ecuatorial!

Equatorial Guinea is a Spanish-speaking country in Africa. This resource will help your students connect with people on the other side of the world, in a very comprehensible fashion. They will learn about their traditions, food, and dances.

More on Equatorial Guinea!

This comic strip depicts a dynamic conversation between two boys, Jaime and Julio. Jaime, a bicultural student from Chicago, becomes intrigued by a new student at their school. The catalyst for their interaction is Julio’s eye-catching soccer jersey, prompting Jaime to initiate a conversation and ask questions. Through their shared love of sports, language, and school, the boys quickly establish a connection. Jaime gains valuable insights from Julio, who is originally from Equatorial Guinea, a Spanish-speaking country in Sub-Saharan Africa. Later on, the duo is joined by Lisa, a girl who challenges them in a game of soccer.

The story incorporates various introductory phrases and questions, such as “cómo estás,” “cómo te llamas,” and “me llamo,” among others. Unfamiliar words are thoughtfully highlighted throughout, with a dictionary provided at the bottom of each page. Students are encouraged to utilize context clues to infer the meaning of certain words. Additionally, the comic strip can be utilized for paired activities, where students can take turns reading the characters’ dialogue to enhance their language skills and enjoy the experience together.

Día de las Velitas

Help your student make New Year goals and resolutions, easy peasy! This new freebie has built in supports that will streamline ideas. Each section of the activity builds on the prior one, helping students to gradually grasp each aspect, and write fully comprehensible sentences. I used this as sub plans last year, and we reviewed in class. I was very intrigued by their creativity!
