Breathe. Batch. Balance. Simple Ways for Teachers to Avoid Burnout

As we head into the final stretch of the school year, here’s your gentle reminder:

🌬️ Breathe & Slow Down When you feel the stress creeping in or like you’re doing too much, pause in that moment. Take a breath. Give yourself permission to slow down (I have to remember this when I am running back- and-forth at school. I physically slow down and it helps!)

📦 Batch & Bundle Take a quick look at your schedule and to-do list. What can you group together? Don’t feel pressured to do everything immediately just because it was asked. Group similar tasks and tackle them together when you choose. This week, I am staying late on Monday to help our the theater kids, and that’s going to be my batching day!

⚖️ Balance (the hardest one!) Each week, I have to intentionally look at my calendar and make choices that protect my energy. I make sure I am not overcommitting (so easy to do!). Likewise, in the classroom, I aim for balance too—some reading, some writing, some speaking—so no one skill overwhelms the day.

BTW- I have been taking my students out on 5 minute walks to reset after 45 minutes, and it’s been having a positive impact.
