Holiday Cultural Goodies for Spanish Class (That Won’t Add to Your Prep Pile!)

Students can explore La Noche de las Velitas in Colombia and learn about el ritual de la maleta—my personal favorite! (When I’m in Barranquilla for Christmas, I always take part… though this year we’re staying home because we’re moving!). Also Noche de las velitas, a night of little candles in Colombia.

They’ll also discover how Christmas is celebrated in Guinea Ecuatorial, one of the few Spanish-speaking countries in Africa—a meaningful way to broaden their cultural and geographical knowledge.

No te metas con mis metas is a New Year goal-setting activity for level 2 or beyond. In addition to providing step-by-step goal-writing prompts, students will learn about the importance of making goals with a good dose of interesting compelling input and graphics to keep them engaged.

And for New Year’s, there are two activities, including No te metas con mis metas, a reading paired with a goal-setting activity that helps students reflect and plan for the year ahead and Año Nuevo, Metas nuevas which centers on the future tense in Spanish.
